Hello Kitty x Tombo London

The last time Hello Kitty came to London, it was with Cutter and Squidge and their afternoon tea. Sadly I missed out on that so I was super excited to go to the Hello Kitty x Tombo cafe pop up and check out all the Hello Kitty inspired food. Tombo is a Japanese matcha cafe which has branches in the Soho and Kensington area and prides itself on the playfulness of Japanese culture.

It is a little known fact that Hello Kitty was born in London in 1974 and if she lived here, she would definitely be living in Tombo Fitzrovia. The matcha in the food at the cafe comes from the foothills of Mount Fiji and the fish, especially the sashimi is meant to be top grade. The Hello Kitty theme runs through all their food including their savoury dishes such as the poke and the desserts in the sundaes, lattes and cupcakes.

There was a bit of queue when I arrived and as I waited, I marvelled all the Hello Kitty items on offer, including Japanese style tea cups, matcha green tea and Hello Kitty fans. I went to the cafe purely for the desserts – I ordered the Hello Kitty Matcha Sundae and the Hello Kitty cupcake. It was a real adventure being at the cafe, I was marvelling at all the themed dishes as they arrived at the tables around us.

The sundae was something to be wondered about as it was so well decorated and it was delicious. I love green tea so it was unique to taste matcha ice cream. The cupcake was soft and moist and perfect accompanied by green tea. I had a great time at the cafe and would recommend it to a Hello Kitty fan.
