Five self-care tips for 2019

Self care is not an easy thing to practice but 2019, here are five ways simple ways to take care of you.

I have to admit that I am the worst when it comes to self care. I live my life like a whirlwind, literally whirling from one moment to the next to just get through the weeks. It is rather well known that when I take days off from work, they are usually to either partake in some activity or another or actually go away on a holiday. So one of my new year’s resolution is to take part in self-care and actually take time for myself to reflect, have a pamper and remember that even though life is busy, those pockets of self love time are just as important.

Here are five tips to practice self-care in 2019:

1. Sleep a little earlier

It is the simplest thing to do but going to bed an hour earlier each day this month has really helped me beat the winter blues. I find it very hard to get up on these dark winter mornings and get motivated, however just getting one extra hour’s sleep is making a world of a difference. Sleep is the most important thing we all need and it is the easiest form of self-care you can practice.

2. Take a walk

Taking walks is really important and just a couple of minutes outdoors throughout the day can help make a world of a difference. I have been taking quick half hour walks during my lunch hour at work lately and it really wakes me up for the afternoon. It makes me feel brighter and it is nice to just walk without a purpose or rushing from one place to another.

3. Look after your gut

Now this is a random one but bear with me. I have been reading up on gut health and it is amazing how much of an impact it can have on your skin and hair. Firstly eating a high fibre diet is incredibly important and try and limit foods which are high in fat. Staying hydrated is incredibly important too. Taking probiotics something that I have been doing since the last two years and it has made the world of a difference to my skin. I take the Alflorex tablets but you can take probiotics in any form that you think would work with your routine.

4. Reflect

Reflecting on your day, life or even any event that happens in your life is a real part of processing and evaluating as a human being. I have starting a journal of sorts which sits on my dressing table. As part of my night skin care routine, I just jot down a line in my journal to reflect on my day and if anything notable has happened. I go to bed with a clear head and heart.

5. Find what makes your relax

Relaxing is at the crux of self-care, again one thing which I am awful about. My way of having down time is reading so I have been focusing on doing that. You can read all about my book goals here.
