I have to say a cocktail bar is not somewhere I would choose to spend my time. However on one sunny afternoon, I headed to Tonight Josephine to see what all the fuss was about. Based in an innocuous doorway in Waterloo, Tonight Josephine would be easy to miss. The pink sign and the neon peace sign on top of the stairwell made this place to be right up my street. The pink stairs just added to the perfect blogger touch as we headed downstairs to the bar area.
It honestly felt like I had entered a diner from ‘Grease’ with the pink walls, glittery tables and the chequered floor that we were later told doubled up as a dance floor later on in the evening. Tonight Josephine plays on the idea that Josephine de Beauharnais, better known as the first wife of Napoleon, was told by the man himself ‘not tonight Josephine’ when he was avoiding being intimate with her. The cocktail bar promises a good girl’s night and that is clear from the moment you enter. I had a non-alcoholic Ziggy’s Stardust which was delicious, fresh and fruity. The rim of the glass was decorated with a star shaped fruit slice which was a cute touch.
We sat on high stools over glittery tables as we chatted away and enjoyed our drinks. In the background, the speakers blared out old school tunes from 5ive and Justin Timberlake. We were thoroughly enchanted by the place and how funky it was. When I headed to the toilet, I loved the wallpaper with bad girl slogans including fries before guys.
We were later told that Tonight Josephine has a rooftop bar a couple of doors down from the actual bar and transforms into a dancefloor overnight. I had a great time visiting Tonight Josephine and would love to go back for a real girls night. I would definitely suggest that you book in advance if you are hoping for a table later in the evening as all the tables were reserved when we arrived.
