Claridges Christmas afternoon tea in London is simply magical and in five star luxury surroundings, it is the best hotel to visit in the festive period.
Claridges Christmas afternoon tea is one of the best ones to do at this time of year, with their fantastic Christmas tree being the centrepiece in the lobby. We arrived flustered and windswept from Christmas shopping, desperately wanting a cup of tea to soothe our soul. Entering Claridges is like taking a step back in time where history and old school glamour comes to life. Each year, the hotel in Mayfair has a gorgeous Christmas tree designed by a famous fashion designer.
This year’s tree has been designed by Diane Von Furstenberg and it is a silvery shimmery vision. Nature has been given tribute with silver woodland creatures stalking the lobby and stair wells. I love the tree, it is very different to their tree from last year but the light reflected from it, just adds to the magic.
Unfortunately we didn’t have an afternoon tea booking but were told the bar next door to the tea room would serve us the equivalent. The atmosphere inside Claridges was definitely festive, with people on Christmas shopping trips and celebrating with their loved ones. The tea rooms had choirboys and choir girls singing Christmas carols, adding to the traditional feel of the hotel.
We were served our tea and we asked for some pastries and were given festive desserts from the afternoon tea. Each dessert was crafted to perfection with Christmas laced through each of them. My personal favourite was the chocolate yule roll made out of ganache and coated with green flavouring and an edible holly placed on top.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and worked our way through the desserts, listening to the carols next door to us. It was lovely and well worth a visit during the Christmas period.
