Christmas afternoon teas are one of my favourite things to do and where better to do it at The Chesterfield Mayfair.
Afternoon tea at the Chesterfield Mayfair in London has to be one of my favourite things to do. Set in traditional Mayfair, the hotel is beautifully decorated for Christmas each year and I had to go back in December and check it out for myself. The foyer was beautifully adorned for the season, complete with a gingerbread house shaped as the hotel and looking like something out a Christmas movie. On arrival, we were directed to the restaurant and seated for our afternoon tea. In the background, there was a pianist playing carols, adding to the incredible atmosphere.
First up, we were offered our choice of tea. I chose the Chesterfield Christmas Blend which has notes of chocolate, cinnamon and spices. It was delicious and the perfect accompaniment to the savoury sandwiches, balancing out the sweet desserts too.
The tea was beautifully presented with desserts placed on the top tier looking like little works of art. My sandwiches were so fresh, with soft sumptuous bread and creative fillings. I particularly loved the feta and roasted pepper sandwiches which were very well made.
The scones were not warm as they should be but still as fresh as they could be. Each crumbled in our hands as we applied our jam and clotted cream onto them. The jam tasted homemade, not too sweet and applied smoothly onto each side of the scone.
The top tier was the best part, with the most delicately decorated cupcakes and desserts. There was a gingerbread Christmas tree in a ‘mud’ chocolate pot and even the pot was made out of chocolate. The gingerbread cupcake was topped with a gingerbread biscuit and a chocolate swiss roll with an iced tree.
I had a great time having the Christmas Afternoon Tea at the Chesterfield Hotel and the fact it doubled as my leaving do from my old job, it was a perfect combo. The desserts were well made with great attention to detail whilst the sandwiches were delicious, made with the best fillings.
