Five years ago Huda Beauty came on to the beauty market with her faux eyelashes and took the beauty world by storm. I came into the beauty world myself, five years ago. Before beauty came to take over my life, I was completely low maintenance. I didn’t wear make up, I didn’t particularly care about the way I looked and honestly my acne had got my self-esteem so low that I avoided mirrors altogether. I still remember the day when I came across one of Huda Beauty’s YouTube videos and I was hooked on her first words. She made beauty accessible, real and something that even normal me could look up to. Beauty looked like an art form and I realised that beauty wasn’t just about being fake but enhancing aspects of yourself could change your life, just as it did for me. I learnt not to be ashamed of my looks and actually be confident in my own skin without wanting to look like someone else.
Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in ‘Showgirl’ (above) and ‘Muse’ (below)
Huda Beauty Liquid Matte lipsticks were my first big investment in beauty. I was like a woman possessed buying up all the shades and I needed them to be mine. The first thing that struck me about the liquid mattes were the colours, they were so vibrant yet so wearable at the same time. In terms of texture, they glided onto my lips smoothly and instantly stuck, they didn’t even move at all. I could wear them all day and they wouldn’t fade at all when I ate and drank throughout the day. I fell in love with the liquid mattes and I still think they are my best beauty investment.
