Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at The Sanderson, London

With it being Mad Hatter’s Day, I thought why not using it as excuse to try the Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at The Sanderson London. I was more than ready to fall down the rabbit hole and check out this unique afternoon tea designed by Luna & Curious which added to the quirkiness of the occasion.

On arrival, we were lead to the Courtyard, a wonderful open space in the middle of the hotel with a whole array of exotic plants in its centre. Once sat down, I immediately fell in love with the crockery with plates decorated with zebras, birdcages and ticking clocks. The teas were placed in dreamlike bottles in a tray, all named with each of the famous Alice In Wonderland characters and we invited to smell them and decide on what tea we wanted to drink. I decided on the Queen of Hearts tea which came in these gorgeous King decorated teapots.

The menu was hidden inside old books on the table, adding to the fun feel of the afternoon tea and the sugar cubes were placed inside a jewellery box that played ‘Somewhere over a Rainbow’ when you opened it.

The tea arrived on a gorgeous cake stand and there was so much eat. There were two of each item of food and dessert for both of us so there was more than enough for us to eat. I had the vegetarian afternoon tea and starting from bottom up, I had the vegetarian sandwiches with cream cheese and cucumber and egg mayonnaise and with watercress. On the middle of the tier there were a large variety of desserts with heart shortbread biscuits, chocolate chequered cakes, lemon and orange cakes and chocolate caramel macaroons. On the top layer, there were chocolate truffles and a chocolate caterpillar.

We had fluffy warm scones with jam and clotted cream and also chocolate mousse in beautifully decorated plant pots. All the food was delicious and honestly I enjoyed every bite. Every item of food was made with so much care and attention and stuck religiously to the Mad Hatter’s tea theme.

I hope you enjoyed this post, don’t forget to give my blog a follow if you did,
