Summer and hot weather make up

Left to right: Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer, Naked Skin Colour Correcting Fluid in Peach, Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer, BareMinerals Complexion Rescue

Let’s face it, hot days are a rare occurrence in the UK, but when they do come along, we all just feel like we are melting and that includes our make up. Luckily I am one of those people that tan easily so I use it as a perfect excuse to ditch my heavy winter make up routine and focus more on maintaining my base and keeping my look pretty but effortless.

Base

I am a huge lover of Urban Decay because it just about affordable and you never need a lot of their product to get the effect you want. After my moisturiser, I pat on the Complexion Primer which has a pink hue to it so it really helps create a blurring effect over my blemishes.

I then go straight on with the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue. BareMinerals as a brand have never really stood out to me but I am in love with their Complexion Rescue. It is a tinted gel that you can use as a base for your foundation or wear on your own. It has spf so you don’t need to wear that on top and the finish on this product is flawless. Most days I am wearing this Complexion Rescue on its own with the Naked Skin concealer under my eyes to cover up those dreaded dark eye circles.

Left to right: Neutrogena SkinClearing Foundation (US based), L’Oreal Lumi Magique Cushion Foundation, NYX Professional Make Up Total Control Drop Foundation.

Foundation

As mentioned that I don’t really wear much foundation in the summer months. During the winter months I swear by the Neutrogena SkinClearing make up range, I have no idea why they are not available in the UK because this foundation is so good. It contains Salicylic Acid so it really helps skin clear especially if your skin is as acne prone as mine is and it has such a smooth finish.

This summer, I have been using the L’Oreal Lumi Cushion foundation which honestly is like magic for my skin. It is so easy to apply and is brilliant if you need a bit of coverage but don’t want to wear a full face of foundation. For heavy coverage, I have fallen in love with the NYX Total Cover Drop Foundation. You literally only use one drop and that covers your whole face and you can build it up really easy as well. It dries as second skin which I love as the finish.

Left to right: Neutrogena SkinClearing mineral face powder and Neutrogena Shine Control Powder

Powders

Sadly both these powders are not available in the UK. Seriously someone needs to ask Neutrogena why we don’t have their make up range here, it is so fantastic. The SkinClearing powder is such a lovely consistency and provides coverage on its own or on top of foundation. I used it to death in the winter, and I have now hit pan. The Shine Control powder I am loving at the moment, it is very fine in consistency and perfect for touch ups.

Eyes

I am very fickle when it comes to how I do my eyes every day. In the summer, laziness kicks in and more often then not, I will use browns as a base, a bright colour over the top (I LOVE this NYX orange shimmer shade) and then smoke it out at the edges with a matte dark brown. It does the trick and makes it look as though I have made more of an effort than I actually have. I usually wear eyeshadow on its own with mascara.

Top to bottom: Rimmel Kohl Liner and L’Oreal Super Liner in Perfect Slim

On days when I can’t be bothered, I will line my waterline with kohl and just leave it be. When I am feeling bit more patient, I will wear liquid eyeliner. I am terrible at liquid eyeliner so it takes me time to do and more often than not, it is NEVER symmetrical. This L’Oreal Super Liner is one I picked up in emergency from Boots a while ago when my Glo and Ray eyeliner ran out. I love the Glo and Ray eyeliner, the nib and instant matte finish is one of dreams.

Top to bottom: YSL The Shock mascara in black, Urban Decay Perversion mascara and Dior Pump and Volume mascara

Mascaras are another product I am never really loyal to and at the moment, I have all three of these on the go. I love to wear my YSL The Shock when I want that rock chick look with volumised lashes, Perversion when I want to wear mascara on its own as it tends to clump my lashes and the Dior Pump and Volume, when i want long length girly fluttery lashes. These all have amazing staying power and I would highly recommend all of them.

I hope you enjoyed this insight into my summer make up routine, don’t forget to follow my blog over on Bloglovin.
