Adventures in Iceland – Day 1

When we decided that we were going to take a winter break in Iceland, i was sceptical about the thought. Anyone who knows me, knows that i hate being cold so going away to such a freezing country did not seem like the best plan for me. After a huge plane delay by Wow Air, i finally got to Reykjavik very late into the night and then ended up going to straight to bed.

The next morning, i joined a tour group with a very lovely Irish tour guide callled Craig from Snaeland Tours who took us on a drive along Iceland’s south coast to visit Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Words cannot describe how stunning both these waterfalls were. Upon reaching Seljalandsfoss, it started to snow and the floors around the waterfall were incredibly icey. The true magic was when i got to Skógafoss where a rainbow has just made an appearance. We were in awe of how beautiful mother nature could be.

Next we drove to the coastal village of Vik to see Reynisfjara, a black sand beach. It was such a beautiful beach but eerily so quiet. We could barely here the waves despite standing so near them and came to the conclusion that the black sand was so dense that it absorbed the sounds.
