When i read about the fact that Europe’s only retrospective exhibition of Alexander McQueen’s work was going to be at the Victoria and Albert Museum, i was incredibly keen to go. However, pretty much as soon as the tickets went on sale, the exhibition was sold out with reports of queues going round the block with people keen to visit. I was lucky enough to be treated to a visit as a belated birthday present and i am pleased to report that it was fantastic.
For those of you who don’t know who Alexander McQueen is, he was fashion designer who was well known for his creative talent. He could think outside the box and had a very unique perspective on how fashion should be perceived. He was a real craftsman, blending in tailoring and fashion with new technologies and pushing the boundaries between fashion and art. This exhibition celebrates his talent and it is just simply breathtaking. Each room takes a different look at Mr McQueen’s take on romanticism and it takes the visitor through his vision of fashion. I was blown away by the fashion pieces and the beautifully created head pieces. Mr McQueen was a visionary and that was clear to see throughout his work.
