20 things I discovered in 2020

Just to add a positive spin on the year that was 2020, here are 20 things that I discovered in 2020, from fashion, beauty to food.

Totally inspired by The Anna Edit’s post I really wanted to put a more positive spin on 2020 and look at some of the happier things that came out of 2020. Let’s face the facts, 2020 sucked. It felt like a ridiculously long year, filled with bad news almost on a daily basis and frankly, it made us all give up on living in any sense of the word ‘normal’. However, I thought I would reflect on the things that I have loved and discovered in 2020, in all aspects of life.

Life

Green space This year has been the year where have learnt to appreciate all the green spaces around us. After being in isolation from March, I literally lived in my garden all summer and still to this day, live for my daily walk to the park. We are so lucky to have a park near us and have our own garden as I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy fresh air without it.

Video calls I mean, these have been our lifeline for all of us. Without being able to get easily onto a video call, either on Whatsapp or on Zoom, I don’t think I would have survived. I literally schedule my days around my video calls with my family and our local baby groups which are now on Zoom where I talk to local mums daily.

WFH I know working from home has been a mixed experience for all of us. Some people have loved it, some of us have found it difficult to manage. I was working from home since March and honestly it was a blessing in disguise. Once I started to get towards the end of my third trimester, I was feeling heavier and more and more tired – I can’t even imagine battling the tube in that state.

Entertainment

Netflix I could wax lyrical my love for Netflix and the amazing lifeline it has been for me. I think I must watch a TV series or a movie on Netflix every single day. My friends joke that I am the local directory for the streaming service and you know, they are not half wrong!

Kindle I have to say my Kindle is rather old now but what a magical tool it is. I did miss physical books when I originally got my Kindle but my gosh, the ability to have 70 odd books on there, that I can read at the push of a button is great. I have read so many books this year and it has become my reliable and calming way to get to sleep every night.

90s shows Growing up as a 90s kid, I was rather protected by a lot of the TV shows as I was more likely buried in a book somewhere. It is only now that I have discovered the likes of ER, The West Wing, Buffy, Angel.. oh the list just goes on and on. They are all on 4OD at the moment if you want to watch them and reminisce about simpler times.

Fashion

Style has been rather shortcoming in 2020, partly because we lived in our pyjamas all day, in the four walls of our homes.

The white shirt I don’t think I appreciated the magic of a good white shirt but it was a lifesaver for me. I wore them whilst I was pregnant and afterwards, I was wearing them non-stop. Comfortable and it made me look so together, even on the days when I couldn’t be bothered.

Uniqlo jeggings If you haven’t met these in your life, you need to find a pair and just see what marvellous items of clothing that they are. I have two pairs and they are so stretchy and have expanded and retracted as my waistline has evolved.

M&S bras I don’t think I completely appreciated the magic of Marks & Spencer bras but they have the best loungewear bras, seam free and feel so lovely against my skin. I bought three which have worn over and over again, and they still look as good as they were when I first bought them.

Knitted co-ord sets I have to say, before this pandemic, I didn’t own a single co-ord set but now I live in them. They are so warm, snuggly and are perfect either when I am lounging at home or heading out to the park for my daily walk. My current obsession is my Lorna Luxe set from her latest collection, soft and super stylish.

Nike trainers Forget ALL my shoes which have essentially gathered dust in 2020, my Nike trainers have become my absolute favourite shoes. Once a reserve for the gym, they are now my fail safe whether I am nipping to the shops or going for my daily walk.

Books

2020 was definitely the year that I rediscovered my love for reading. It gave me some reprieve from Netflix and also meant that I stopped thinking about the pandemic and escaped to another world.

Harry Potter books I re-read all the Harry Potter books again and it was literally food for my soul. I love these books and honestly, they are just so well written that you can’t help but want to go to Hogwarts and become a wizard.

Bridgerton Saga Well before the Netflix series, I was a HUGE fan of the Julia Quinn. I loved the era the books are set in and the fiesty and strong women that shaped the Bridgerton world. I love Kate Sheffield so I really hoping she is cast well on screen. The books are way better than the series!

The Positive Birth Book If there was a book that got me through my pregnancy and childbirth, it was this one. I loved how well written this book was and realistic too. It didn’t whitewash the realities of having a baby and it felt as though a good friend was supporting me throughout my pregnancy.

The Undomestic Goddess Sophie Kinsella is the queen of romantic comedy in books and this book didn’t disappoint. I loved following Samantha’s journey as she left her job as a lawyer to become a housekeeper, purely by accident.

Beauty

Let’s face it (pardon the pun!). We haven’t been wearing much in the way of make-up this year but here a few beauty bits that I discovered and loved in 2020.

Kiehl’s Super Strength serum I found this serum purely by accident. It promises to strengthen your skin, giving it that injection of hyaluronic acid whilst reducing fine lines. I have to say this has helped with the brightening of my skin, whilst giving it back the smoothness that I have always craved.

Garnier Natural Rose Water Moisturiser I am a bit of a skincare snob. I don’t buy from the high street and often, will pay premium prices for moisturiser. However, this Garnier moisturiser has made me eat my words. It has the best texture and really has helped my skin, perfect for my days at home.

Kiehl’s Buttermask for lips My lips always take a bit of battering, especially in the colder months. I have been using this buttermask as an overnight mask and it has stopped my lips from cracking and bleeding in colder weather.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser I haven’t been wearing make-up or going out much, so this gentle cleanser is great for skin. It leaves my skin hydrated and healthy, and is great to use twice a day.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer This bronzer was always a hero product but this has been the only product I have come back to over and over again. It has been my bronzer, eyeshadow, mattifier… honestly this product is fantastic.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my 2020 favourites, tell me yours. What did you love?

Sanoobar x
